MY AUSTIN SHOPPING GUIDE FOR REISSUED

Last month I worked with Reissued,  an amazing new curated social marketplace application, on an Austin shopping guide for a feature on their website and shopping marketplace. Reissued is an app that allows curators to buy and sell vintage, one- of- a- kind, handmade and hard-to-find items. I spent two days with their director of sales visiting my favorite spots and picking out unique items from each store to feature.

Although the app generally focuses on vintage items, I also wanted to include stores that carry unique and limited edition items that cannot be found anywhere else.

Here is a snapshot of where I took Reissued for the best shopping stops in Austin, Texas.

We first hit up South Congress street with a stop at a store I have featured on TSR before, Gail Chovan’s French gothic dreamland called Blackmail Boutique. This is one of the most unique stores in Austin featuring all black items and a serious collection of taxidermy. You cannot go through Austin without stopping in this glimpse of Paris in Austin.

Across the street is Stag, my favorite men’s store in Texas (that will soon be making its way to Venice,Ca). Here you can find one of the best merchandised stores I have ever visited featuring a lifestyle collection of products that every man(and woman) needs including denim from imogene + Willie, bags and accessories by Filson, and clothing by The West is Dead.

Next up is the renowned Feathers Boutique, my client that I am happy to call the best vintage store in Austin. If you go through Austin and don’t make a trip through Feathers, you are seriously missing out. This place satisfies every bohemian gypsy’s fantasy and then some. To satisfy your current craving, go and check out their newly launched website and buy something RIGHT NOW!

Right behind Feathers is a killer hidden record store called Friends of Sound. To no surprise, they specialize in all of Texas’ favorite genres including Blues, Soul and Country. If you are a collector, this is a spot you do not want to miss.

Lamar is a pretty long street that runs North and South with many shops along the way. Unlike South Congress, this street requires driving and hitting up the spots along the way including Mockingbird Domestics that features Texas made goods. From fine art to furniture and vintage goods, this is one eclectic shop that is worth the drive up Lamar.

On the other end of Lamar is JM Drygoods (another shop I’ve featured before on TSR), a bright and sunny store filled with goods imported from Mexico by owner Michelle Teague. This shop is one of the happiest places to visit and I guarantee you cannot walk out of this store without something in your hands.

Headed East, our first stop was Charm School Vintage, an eclectic and fun shop that happens to include a wig shop and a salon just in case you need an All-In-One stop before a night out. On their racks you can find everything from flirty 50′s dresses to embroidered western shirts.

Next up is Friends & Neighbors, a new spot opened by the owners of favorite restaurant Hillside Pharmacy that is just down the street. Situated in a cute little house on Cesar Chavez, this bright and funky shop features a well curated selection of vintage wares including some of the cutest vintage clothing for children you have ever seen. And if you are ready for a pick me up, their coffee shop outpost inside the shop is just as bright as the paint on the walls.

Next up is Austin’s newest venture from RVRB records (the Austin Psych Fest record label formed by The Black Angels), a record shop and vintage store featuring an amazing collection of vintage by Laced with Romance. Here you will find all the requirements for your psychedelic fantasy including poster art, crystals, tie-dye, velvet bell-bottoms, and the best psych vinyl available in Texas.

Austin’s own Helm Boots features hand-crafted limited-edition boots and other goods on the east side of the city.
