  1. SOUND: LOUISIANA’S LAZY LESTER

    image

This past week I discovered somebody that I should’ve already known about given my love of the Blues and the fact that I grew up in Louisiana. One of Austin’s hotspots, Justine’s Brasserie, hosted the Legendary harmonica swampy blues musician Lazy Lester in the corner of their famed restaurant and boy was it special.

Ok, so I have a major girl crush. Esther Quek, the fashion director of menswear magazine The Rake, is by far my favorite fashion influencer. She’s probably one of the coolest chicks out there on the fashion scene and I love that she dresses like one of the boys with such confidence and assurance. Her color combinations and layers are like magic and I love the edge that she adds to each of the classic looks with her haircut and jewelry. She’s just a total badass and to say I’m obsessed with her just doesn’t cut it.

I wrote about the Swedish folk duo, First Aid Kit, back in 2012 when I first discovered their music and fell in love with their look and sound. When I was in Mexico City in December, I was thrilled to find out that a local makers market was happening called La Lonja Mercantil which is Mexico City’s version of LA’s Echo Park Craft Fair or Parachute Market. I found some really great artists and met some amazing people while strolling through . One artisan in particular really caught my eye and I ended up coming home with several of her pieces of jewelry. Created by Michelle Goni of Mexico City, Avocet Jewelry is a line of handcrafted jewelry that is inspired by relics and venerated objects. “It is a convergence of rituals, cultures and stories as portrayed int he form of jewelry.”

For the last month, I’ve been working with Stash Co on curating their new brick and mortar store in the West Ave Shopping Center in the heart of River Oaks, Houston. The store is a great showcase to represent the full Stash lifestyle with a very unique aesthetic that is certainly one of a kind. I have loved working on this project and the process of bringing together artists that I love and admire has been very inspiring to me.
