For the past few weeks I have been back in Texas and have had a great time of discoveries and inspiration. Last week I went to a two week flea market that I have been hearing about for years that sets up off a country road somewhere between Houston and Austin. Usually referred to as “Round Top”, this flea market includes 3/4 different towns within a 5 mile radius where vendors come out twice a year and set up their goods for sale all along the highway. I’ve actually never seen anything of its kind before and I was blown away and overwhelmed when I arrived! I’ve never seen this much stuff set up to dig through in my entire life of hunting. Two of the best shows to stop in are in Warrenton and another that comes later in the week at Marburger Farms which is an edited version of the show for those that have limited time and patience.
I have so many different things to share from this trip(I took hundreds of photos) but I thought I would start with an edited version of an aesthetic that I am really drawn to at this moment. I’ve always been a big fan of black and white and off-setting the classic tones with natural textures, colors and elements is a palette that I want to live in all the time. I’ve come to love this sophisticated combination and I find myself constantly drawn to objects and art that reflect this aesthetic. I’ve really come to love rustic items and things that feel like they have lived a long life. Whether wood or rusted steel, or even old burlap and ceramics…if it’s old and rusty, I dig it.
There are many things to see, and if I had a trailer and an endless bank account, I would have bought all of it! But instead, I share with you…
