This past week I met and had dinner with two cool fashion chicks who happen to be opening a Vintage store in downtown LA next week. It’s seldom that I meet girls in fashion and really like them, and this meeting was a nice surprise. Monique (aka Dillon Delacroix) and Karen Marley, daughter of legendary Bob Marley, are pals and business partners and both have a knack for hunting down vintage finds. Their new store is called Buttons and Bows Los Angeles and is located right in the middle of the Fashion District downtown on 7th and Main st.
At dinner the ladies told me that their store is going to mainly carry vintage but there will also be a designer consignment portion where customers can sell their goods. They also told me that they will be hitting that “sweet spot” when it comes to their pricing, and plan on keeping their product affordable along the same prices as Wasteland. There aren’t that many vintage competitors around LA that land in this pricing zone and I know with their taste, the store will definitely stand out among the crowd. I’m very excited to check out their collection as I can tell these two know what’s up when it comes to fashion.
Karen Marley’s fashion sense is in her blood. Although most people remember Bob for his music, he threw down some seriously sharp outfits back in the day that denim and surf brands all over the world still reference. Karen spent time in London as an interior designer until she moved to Los Angeles where she works on several creative business projects with the family including designing with her sister, Cedella and her line Catch a Fire. She has a major flair for fashion and a passion for finding unique vintage that represents her eclectic style.
Monique Aquino is known as Dillon Delacroix around the blogosphere as well as around town. Like me, she has worked in all different aspects of the industry including production, visual merchandising and buying. She somehow manages to keep up with 3 blogs (very impressed by this) in the midst of scouring for vintage finds. Along with her knack for fashion, she has a serious passion for food. Follow her food blog here… her music blog here….and her fashion blog here. Whew!
In anticipation of their opening, they produced a lookbook that was styled and modeled by the incredibly lovely Olivia Lo from Lust for Life. Shot by Jesse Fiorino, the mood is fresh and ready for Spring and I am already coveting some pieces. I better get my wallet ready for next week’s opening! Here are a few of my favorite shots below.

You can follow Buttons and Bows Los Angeles on Facebook.
The store will be open next Friday, April 6th. Location is 111 West 7th Street.
Looking forward to it!
