The Fall 2012 season is well underway and I wanted to share a few of the younger designers that I will be watching this season. I always love the talent in London including many of my favorites: Mary Kantrantzou, Micheal Van der Ham, James Long, Simone Rocha, Jonathan Saunders, Clements Ribeiro and of course one of my favorite lines Acne. But there are always new and younger designers on the scene that I like to point out and watch as they pave their way to fashion stardom. Here are a few I have my eye on.
1. JACKIE JS LEE
A definite new-be on the scene, Jackie JS Lee is a Korean designer living in London who just graduated from Central St Martin in 2007. She debuted her first collection on her own last year of chic androgynous tailored separates. In the past year she has garnered press all over the world including Vogue UK, W mag, American Vogue, Dazed Confused, and i-D. Keep your eyes on this one.
Learn more about this designer on her website. Her collection will be shown today in London and is sponsored by Topshop.
2. JW ANDERSON
JW is an Irish designer in London who first launched his collection in menswear. In 2010, he ventured into womenswear and for Fall 2012 he will be presenting his first full-fledged runway show. Quickly becoming one of London’s new “it” designers, the clamor for his things ranges from girls in China, America, and Europe (in that order) which has sent retailers asking for more. He just showed his first Pre-Fall collection to rave reviews and I have no doubt we will be hearing more about this young talent.
Find out more about JW on his website. His collection will be shown on Sunday in London and is also sponsored by Topshop.
3. CRAIG LAWRENCE
Having caught our eye quite a bit ago, Craig Lawrence is hot on the London scene claiming press all over the world. Tilda Swinton has been one of his biggest supporters and wore his designs in both W and Another magazine last year. His out of the box knitwear designs are a sight to be seen. Knitting with unconventional materials such as Japan’s Kyototex to create voluminous, fluffy and shiny knits is his specialty. Seriously excited to see what he does for Fall 2012.
4. SISTER BY SIBLING
A collaboration between Joe Bates, Sid Bryan and Cozette McCreery, SISTER is the extension of the SIBLING brand that specializes in mutating classic, traditional knitwear designs and techniques and making them into their own humorous take on fashion.Originally a mens knitwear line, this season marks their second foray into womenswear with their first runway presentation at London Fashion week. They describe their woman as “A girl with a good sense of humour and a fun, happy attitude.” With the recent huge trend of animal and conversational sweaters this past season, the timing is perfect for this team to skyrocket into fashion’s cool list.
Learn more about this line on their website. Their debut collection will be shown today in London and is also sponsored by Topshop.
