Yesterday marked the first day of fashion week for me working with Corey Lynn Calter on her first presentation show in NYC! It was very exciting to be a part styling the show as well as helping her conceive the collection and her vision for the set. Everything came together as planned and people really seemed to love it.
The hair was done by cute Whitney and her team from Toni & Guy. I’m obsessed with this girls hair btw.
The makeup was done by Two Faced Cosmetics and we loved how our concept turned out.
The collection is called “I see Light Far Away” and is a nod to Russian artist Kazimir Malevich who was known for geometric abstraction. The strong color in the collection represents the light seen through the darkness in relation to hope and the current economic and political climate.
Three strong color stories were told in tonal palettes of orange/coral, evergreen/yellow, and orchid/plum. The set told the same story as models posed in front of their related backdrop.
Models streamed in and out of the set onto platforms and props in a casual way as the dj played some of Corey’s favorite tunes.
The collection had Mod references with clean shapes and bold color combinations. Corey’s signature prints dominated and her quirky edge was shown with LA Eyeworks glasses.
The jewelry was by Ben Amun and I was thrilled to experiment with my big earring idea by donning the models in mis-matched size/styles for my nod to Twiggy’s signature style. Shoes were provided by Seychelles and worked great with the colors that we had in the collection.
She did some amazing coats this season and below is my favorite..can’t wait to get it for myself!
The colors are amazing in this collection and we are loving bold color for Fall 2012!
Here is Corey below before the show backstage with one of her models.
It was such a great experience and I’m really happy for Corey and the team. Excited to see where this year takes the brand!
After the show, she took us all to a great lunch at Pastis (one of her favs) for champagne and eats. It was a great end to a wonderful creative project!
