Can’t wait till the start of NYFW tomorrow! I’m excited this season for many reasons. I am thrilled to be working with my client, Corey Lynn Calter ,to bring her collection to NYFW for the first time (more on that later), I also get the chance to be physically in NY to attend shows and presentations (usually stuck in LA during the same week getting ready for market)!
It’s great to be able to look at the collections through the internet (that’s something truly changing in the world of fashion media), but there is no comparison to seeing the clothes in person. There is something about the whole experience along with the crowd, the light, and the music that creates a complete experience. Of all the shows I’ll be going to, there are a few young designers/brands that I’m really looking forward to meeting, and they are Jeremy Laing, Sally LaPointe, and Libertine!
I have always paid close attention to each of Jeremy Laing’s collections. I am fascinated with the shape of his fashion forward silhouettes and the prints that he often custom creates for each season. There is always something innately cool and effortless about his clothes and of course the best pieces are usually ones that are easy to wear and make the person feel instantly special. Since he has started, specialty stores across the county have been paying attention and he is now in doors such as H. Lorenzo in LA, The Grocery Store in San Francisco, and V.O.D in Dallas. Can’t wait to see the show!
Jeremy Laing – Sunday Feb. 12th @11am –
Eyebeam NYC. **UPDATE** Please note the Jeremy Laing show had a VENUE CHANGE. Date and time remain the same.
Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W 18th St.(between 6th and 7th Avenue)
I am beyond excited about the Sally LaPointe show! Last season I got an invitation but unfortunately couldn’t make it in person and it turned out to be a major regret of my season. The show looked amazing, it was stylistic and moody, very much in line with the young designer’s aesthetic. You can see a distinct gothic European vibe recalling the work by Ricardo Tisci at Givenchy (speaking of which, how sick did Madonna look in Givenchy Couture at the Superbowl!). I expect to see a lot of NY fashion staples such as Derek Blasberg and Michelle Harper turning out to support Sally and this is definitely going to be a highlight of my NYFW schedule! Before I left LA, I was in Church Boutique and her collection had just arrived in the store and he had already sold many pieces the day it arrived.
Sally LaPointe – Saturday Feb. 11th @ 6pm
And lastly I get to support my fellow Angeleno Johnson Hartig’s Libertine! I got a chance to meet Johnson and interview him shortly after his amazing NYFW comeback a year ago and I was hooked ever since. His personality is fully displayed in his inspiration for each season and the artist side of him really plays to my aesthetic. This would be his 3rd season showing in NY since his return and it has gotten better and better each time. His business has grown into more stores (retail giant Joyce included) and celebrities are fighting to wear his looks. I expect to see a totally fresh approach to his signature screen print style delivering something completely inspiring I’m sure.
Libertine – Thurs. Fed 9th @ 8:30pm – Milk Studios
