This week I was a part of a cosmic magical fashion experience that has been in the works for over a year now. In conjunction with my friend and talented designer Emily Factor, I was a major player in re-introducing the Heritage Accessory brand Alex & Lee back into the fashion world in a presentation in downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday night.
It was initially through Emily that I first saw the amazing work of Alex & Lee when I visited her Laurel Canyon house in the Spring of 2010 to check out what she was working on for her Fall 2010 collection. She had met the artists in Santa Fe at a Gem show and she asked if she could use some of their vintage pieces in her runway show as their design ideas seemed to be cosmically connected. When I saw the pieces, I completely freaked out and could not believe the magnitude of creativity in their work. I was obsessed and wondered why this brand wasn’t in high end stores and I couldn’t figure out why they weren’t available to the fashion setters of this world. The look and feel seemed so right on track with what I had been seeing in fashion from an Artisan/Hand crafted movement and I had to become a part of it somehow.
I immediately contacted the artists and shared with them the passion for what I saw and how much I believed in their work in relation to the fashion market. Before I knew it, I was taking a drive up the coast to Sea Ranch where their studio is and the love affair started then. I’ve been working with them ever since and this week we re-launched the brand back into the fashion world with their first showing since the mid-80′s.
As an homage to the cosmic relationship between Emily, myself and Alex & Lee, we decided to show their Spring 2012 collections together in a installation presentation format at a beautiful gallery in downtown Los Angeles. The models were perched in a linear format under trees paired with crystals and tree stumps for an earthy mystical aesthetic that goes with both collections so well.
It’s amazing how well Emily’s collection paired with Alex & Lee’s pieces. A cosmic wonder for sure.
Here are some close up pictures of some of the Alex & Lee Spring 2012 collection titled “Crystal Visions”:
The reviews have been great from the show so far and it was a wonderful night for everyone involved. As the stylist of the show, it was great to read how much the editors loved Emily’s collection because I had such a great time putting it together with her. I can’t tell you how amazing it has been working with these artists, their creativity abounds and it has been one of the most synergetic magical relationships I have ever had. I feel so blessed to work with such creative people and to say they are family now doesn’t even really cover the cosmic connection that we have.
Stay tuned for more on Alex & Lee as I will be taking their brand to a new level in 2012..lots of exciting things to come!
You can watch a video here of the evening for more.
