Aspire To Inspire

Can’t believe London is ending today AND Milan is starting. Have you watched the livestream of the Gucci show yet? I’m still gathering my thoughts about it and so glad that Milan always starts off with a great show. For the 3rd city in a row I present to you my “ones to watch”.

Milan is often tricky and I believe last season I failed to identify a new talent for this segment. But, fortunately this season I came across a new brand from Milan that is doing all the right things and is a breath of much needed fresh air, the name is CO|TE.

The young brand was started by design duo Tomaso Anfossi and Francesco Ferrari, both graduates of the prestigious Istituto Marangoni. They met through several collaborative projects and their friendship grew from working together and understanding that each other’s aesthetic works perfectly together. Since then they have grabbed the attention of Italy’s fashion elite as well as the international fashion press. They have been chosen as finalist and will be featured as part of Vogue Italia’s “Who is On Next” competition with their collection being shown on Sept. 22nd during the inaugural night of  Palazzo Morando.

When I reached out to the brand I was surprised to receive a direct response from Tomaso and Francesco. They graciously gave me a detailed background of the young history of CO|TE as well as a sneak peak at their brand new S/S 2012 collection! After flipping through the material, I fell immediately in love and was intrigued by what they had to offer.

The name CO|TE means shelter and protection and they claim that’s something they weave into their design. Aesthetically they favor clean and geometric shapes which are both functional yet modern and playful at the same time. For the S/S 2012 collection that they will be reshowing to a broader audience, it features sharp lines and boxy silhouettes with an air of sporty sexiness – right on trend. And after seeing all the prints from NY and London, the ones I saw in the CO|TE collection are among the most fun and unique. The collection features clean lines and practical clothing done with a modern Italian flare that is intellectual and chic at the same time. Overall it is, bright, carefree, and playful, which are adjectives we are excited to associate with Milan, which is exactly why CO|TE is a must-watch for Milan Spring 2012.

So glad I found a video of their smaller show earlier this summer of the collection, only part of the line was featured but it will give you an idea of what to expect, enjoy!
