Still playing catch up and Sunday’s “Look of the Day” belongs to New York City’s perennial ambassador – Donna Karan’s DKNY.
No one gets NYC better than Donna Karan and through this collection she presents her guide to survive New York’s scorching and sweaty summer heat while looking fresh and chic. This particular look encapsulates the collection’s philosophy of easy breezy lightness, full of ease but at the same time contains the New Yorker sense of polish.
I imagine myself walking down the streets of NYC in this dress which is exactly what Ms. Karan was getting at. The fresh color and loose silhouette make for the perfect summer dress. The mood of pink just feels right – especially on the 10 year anniversary of 9/11. It signifies a sense of hope, an uplifted spirit and a sense of frivolity, which is just what the fashion doctor ordered for Spring 2012.
So besides topping off Sunday’s “Look of The Day”, the chosen DKNY look also solidifies a very strong early trend – PINK. I’ve seen many bright colors on the runway so far and none other comes brighter than pink. Seems like many designers share the same sentiment as Donna Karan and have been showing pink looks one after another. So far I’ve seen a multiple of shades of pink and it has been used everywhere from dresses to hot shorts and from suits to outerwear adding to the chances of this runway trend hitting the high streets.
It’s a great color to compliment another big Spring trend – Black and White. Last season reintroduced the idea of ladylike dressing and it makes sense for pink to make headlines as what else is better to represent femininity other than pink. So ladies, it’s time to celebrate your womanhood, embrace the spirit and start thinking pink!
