NYFW LOOK OF THE DAY: DAY 4

I’m playing catch up today on the weekend’s shows….and want to present my favorite look from Saturday 9/10/11.

There were many great shows to choose from including Band of Outsiders, Altuzarra, Libertine, Alexander Wang, Helmut Lang, and Graeme Armour.  All of which I enjoyed different aspects of.  Helmut Lang presented a sharp collection of black and white edgy basics that any downtown girl is going to go crazy over.  Altuzarra was by far my favorite collection of the day showing a ladylike sporty theme that included neoprene, exposed zippers, parachute references, amazing tropical collage prints, and tailored separates.

My favorite look is from Prabal Gurung who combined his refined elegance with sharp tailoring, great collage prints, and techno magic.  The vibe was flirty and fun and will definitely make a mark come editorial season.  This collection is a bit out of the box for this designer and I’m curious to see how his celebrity followers view the collection.

Prabal Gurung Spring 2012

I love the colors in this collection first and foremost.  The aqua with black piping and lines is so modern and the digital collage print that was used throughout the collection is remarkable.  I love the vest in this look (a big Spring trend, I predict) and I love how it mirrors the print in the shirt but is in a different fabric.  Another trend to take note of. The vertical and horizontal stripes are flattering and speak very much of what we will be seeing more of for Spring 2012.  And the glasses, well…they are pretty special.
