CLEAN LINES: BOUCHRA JARRAR HAUTE COUTURE AUTUMN/WINTER 2011

New on the scene, but certainly not new to fashion, Bouchra Jarrar showed the haute couture that age doesn’t matter when it comes to designing impeccable clothes.  Only having a year under her belt with her namesake line, Bouchra showed her Fall 2011 collection today to a packed house.

Just 39 years old, she acquired her skills working under Nicolas Ghesquiere at Balenciaga for ten years as well as working in Christian Lacroix’s couture studio for 18 months.  She studied Cristobal Balenciaga’s cut while working on the Balenciaga.Edition line and learned the art of haute couture.  Born in Cannes and of Moroccan heritage, Jarrar started making clothes at a young age when her mother gave her a sewing machine on her 12th birthday.  Still new to having her own line, Jarrar confesses to “doing it all herself”  while working from her studio in Paris.

Her vision gifts us a fresh take on Parisian minimalism with a palette of black, white, camel, navy and a hit of fuchsia.  She keeps it simple, letting the clean lines of the impeccable tailoring speak for themselves.  Her clothes perfectly represent today’s Parisian Chic.

What is most interesting about her work is that each collection is a continuation of the previous season. There aren’t any abrubt changes in her vision.  Instead, each collection is a natural progression in sensuality adding new stylistic elements when the timing feels right.

If you ask me…the timing feels right….it feels really right.

Watch out Phoebe Philo, there’s a new girl in town.
