Listed as one of The Sche Report’s top NYC designers to watch, Reed Krakoff showed an amazing continuation of his Utilitarian collection yesterday. Consisting of white, red, black & white, pale yellow green and electric blue, his collection was Modern, Minimal, and Utilitarian which all together made an impressive collection of covetable clothing.
What really stood out when reviewing the show was his fascinating mixture of accessories. He combined thick tribal inspired leather rope with horsehair, patent leather, plastic tubes, and heavy silver. Definitely the freshest combination of materials and textures we have seen in awhile. This is exactly why Reed is on an upward move to become one of the next most influential designers of our country and of the fashion business at large. His sensibility and vision combine a myriad of references that output into an enigmatic combination of modern design: Reed represents a new idea of craftmanship.
“Design never begins in a vacuum. It starts with a line and radiates outward. The Reed Krakoff collection is about the interplay of opposites: slick and soft, utilitarian and ethereal, tough and feminine, grit and gauze, the circle and the square. Likewise, the RK signature draws on the rich history of 20th centruy modern art and architecture- from the color and texture experiments of Josef Albers to the stark minimalism of Frank Stella- to arrive at a combination that is utterly contemporary. ” RK
