In just a few days, the bi-annual fashion circus otherwise known as Fashion Month will commence starting with New York Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2011 Collections. As a pioneer in fashion, retail, and trends, The Sche Report will be reporting firsthand on next season’s emerging trends from the runways of New York, London, Milan, and Paris straight to your computer screen. Stay tuned in the next month for comprehensive coverage.
New York City often kicks off fashion week with tremendous style and energy, and this season will prove to be nothing less. The city features hundreds of designers and labels, some established, such as Marc Jacobs, Donna Karen, Vera Wang, and Ralph Lauren as well as “of the moment”, red hot designers such as Alexander Wang, Sophie Theallet, Proenza Schouler, Band of Outsiders and countless others. With that said, The Sche Report has specifically handpicked a few designers whose collections we think will take the fashion community by storm in just a few days!
1. CALVIN KLEIN COLLECTION
As one of the established American luxury labels, Calvin Klein has a firm grasp on brand identity with it’s signature streamlined minimalist design. Season after season, designer Francisco Costa has showcased immaculately cut modern designs which seem to always get better season after season. With the minimalist movement likely to hold strong, it should be another strong season from the house of Calvin Klein.
2. ALEXANDER WANGStill the epitome off NYC downtown chic, Alex Wang has been consistently sending lust-worthy garments down his runways. This past season proved especially successful with the help of his accessories department culminating in him winning the CFDA best new accessories designer award. This coming week all eyes will be on Mr. Wang including ours!
One of the rising star of NY fashion, Joseph Altuzarra is quietly cultivating a cult following while fine tuning his signature tailored and sexy style. He had one of the most critically acclaimed collections this past season by staying true to his aesthetics while remaining edgy and modern. With fashion forward fans such as Carine Roitfeld of French Vogue, Joseph Altuzarra is a major star about to make fashion history.
4. OHNE TITEL
Definitely one of the lower profile brands in NYC, Ohne Titel maintains a steady growth while insisting on its architectural avant-garde signature style. This past season saw the brand’s most wearable collection to date which translated to a growth in sales and editorial coverage. Sure to be one of NYC’s favorite design duos, look for a high level of sophistication and creativity in the label’s design philosophy and make sure to catch a glimpse of his style in publications such as V, W, Dazed and Confused…etc.
A cool balance of uptown and downtown chic, Bensoni is quickly becoming a street style staple of style icons such as Olivia Palermo. Fun colors, cool prints, and flattering silhouettes make this label one of the few rising stars in the NYC fashion scene gaining prominence season by season and Spring 2011 will not be an exception.
6. CUSHINE ET OCHS
Design duo Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs are growing their business and design aesthetic in an impressive manner. Fashion week is often a great opportunity to spot trends, and an even greater opportunity to spot new talent which represents the future of fashion. Cushine & Ochs is definitely one such label. Representing a fine mix of sexy, edgy, and avant-garde style, their last collection hit the heavy knit and leather trends right on showcasing some impressive maturity in outerwear while staying strong on their signature frocks. Look for a continuation in the duo’s experimentation with texture and proportion as they bring a bit of avant-garde to NYC fashion.
7. JEREMY LAING
Canadian designer Jeremy Laing’s avant garde style has been taking NYC fashion by storm for the past couple seasons. Often labeled as NYC’s rare avant-garde designers, Liang’s one of few new talents who are skilled in both tailoring and draping. His inspiration spans from vanishing points to the natural landscape of his native Canada. Jeremy Laing is a designer who is unpredictable and whose work is always beautiful and highly anticipated.
8. REED KRAKOFF
As Creative Director of Coach since the mid-90′s, Reed Krakoff has proven his talent by taking the company from a $500 million company to a now $3 billion business. This past fall we saw the debut of his own brand which received rave reviews from all the top fashion critics. Reed’s mix of Utilitarian sportswear and luxurious fabric was right on point for Fall’s minimalist trend and his craftmanship was impeccable. His Spring collection will be shown in line with the opening of his Madison avenue flagship with more stores opening in 2011. The Sche Report highly anticipates this Spring/Summer collection and can’t wait to see more from his amazing American designs.
