A trend has been spotted on the runway of Dolce and Gabbana and in the stylings of some of our favorite fashion forward muses Anna Dello Russo and Jane Aldridge from Sea of Shoes. Not for just anyone, this trend encourages a DIY sensibility combined with an over the top Glam aesthetic.
Influenced by a combination of Military and 50′s stylings, the idea is to embellish outerwear and handbags with metals, broaches, single earrings and pins. The mix should include everything from military medallions, animals, 80′s gold shapes, 50′s rhinestone styles and everything in between. With this trend, MORE is definitely better!
Take a look at Jane Aldridge’s of Sea of Shoes creation below:
This can be done on everything from blazers to outerwear and check out how Dolce and Gabbana created this look on on of their Fall 2010 handbags using mostly gold coins, charms & earrings:
JCrew also showed the DIY trend in their Fall 2010 lookbook:
Fashion muse and Favorite Editor Anna Dello Russo recently designed a customized trench for Lane Crawford’s 160th anniversary using the same technique:
Anna picked up where Jane left off adding Chanel charms, flowers and 50′s inspired rhinestone circular broaches. Someone who is definitely known for “More is More”, Anna’s customized trench is spectacularly overdone.
Check out more of Anna’s medallion inspiration here.
If you are not convinced yet, take a look at French Vogue’s August issue featuring an editorial titled “Medailles du style”. If Carine Roitfeld is doing it…..well, then….
The Sche Report was on this trend last year creating a Balmain inspired military vest using several medallions and pins to create the look:
The greatest thing about this trend is that anyone can replicate it by gathering up miscellaneous broaches from your mother’s closet, a thrift store or a flea market. Remember that it’s all in the mix!
