To help streamline direction on the Velvet trend, I’ve picked three Key Items to focus on. Whether developing for the Junior market, or shopping in the Contemporary market, these are the three key items that most retailers will be featuring at retail to tell this story.
THE VELVET DRESS
The velvet dress has been shown in all styles covering short and architectural to long and romantic. Many showed maxi’s and others focused on cut-outs and body con styles. Whatever your style, there is sure to be one out there for your choosing.
THE VELVET BLAZER
The velvet blazer is the update to last Fall’s boyfriend blazer. Look for the blazer in soft versions, fitted suit styles and romantic styles ala Ralph Lauren. The blazer is one of the best pieces to focus on within this trend as it can be paired easily in any wardrobe as an extra texture. I love them paired in a romantic way with a little bit of a Boho feel and a little bit tailored. For the vintage shoppers out there, this will be a very easy item to find on the racks….start looking now!
THE VELVET TROUSER
Several different versions of the velvet trouser were shown: flare leg, leggings, harem, drop-crotch, skinny, and cropped. All versions are relevant; however, I would invest in the flared version as they are the newest pant silhouette of the season so they will have more longevity in the coming years. The flared versions will also be great with a jacket to replicate Balmain’s version of Rock n Roll suiting.
